Dress Code

Creativity and self-expression are encouraged. However, a certain degree of decorum is expected in order to maintain an environment that is conducive to learning. Please ensure that your child is appropriately dressed before leaving the house. Non-adherence to district/school rules will result in consequences as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct.

The Conservatory School adheres to the School District of Palm Beach County (SDPBC) Policy 5.182 which identifies SDPBC requirements for a District-wide Student Dress Code and identifies guidelines and attire which is not permitted in any SDPBC schools. This Dress Code specifically prohibits attire with language or images that are crude, vulgar, profane, violent, or lewd. It also prohibits clothing that is sexually suggestive or revealing (examples include, but is not limited to, clothing which exposes the midriff, exposes one’s undergarments, have plunging necklines, muscle tops, backless clothing, and are constructed of see-through materials).

Please see the specific guidelines below:

Shirts: (School shirts can be purchased in the front office in a variety of sizes and designs!)

• All shirts must have sleeves and fully cover the student's torso, with no exposed back or midriff.
  • Tank tops are permitted, but spaghetti straps are not.
• Shirts must not display inappropriate or suggestive images, phrases, or advertisements.

Pants, Shorts, and Dresses:

• Shorts, skirts, and dresses must reach at least mid-thigh or longer.
• NO holes or rips above knee level on pants, jeans, or other bottoms are permitted.

Shoes:

• Athletic shoes are preferred.
• Crocs, sandals, and slides are not permitted as a matter of safety.
• All shoes must have closed toes and a back at all times.

Head coverings:

• Hats, beanies, or any other non-religious head coverings are not allowed on campus.
• This includes hoods from sweatshirts or jackets to be worn over a student's head. The headwear will be confiscated and returned at the end of the school day

Failure to Comply with Dress Code Guidelines

Failure to comply with school dress code guidelines will result in being sent to the office, and parents will be required to bring the student dress code-appropriate wear in a timely manner.  Middle school students will receive one warning for the first offense of being out of dress code; thereafter, the student may receive a formal write-up and after-school detention.

We understand that fashion trends evolve, and we appreciate your support in upholding these standards. If a student's attire is found to be in violation of the dress code, we will contact parents to arrange for a change of clothing.
